- Having the initial meeting at home rather than in an unfamiliar professional office Home Visit
- Meeting face-to-face with the young person and following a format that ensures participation by even the most resistant teens and avoids their fears that could lead to running away and other bad choices
- Creating and implementing a strategic plan to resolve issues, not just a school search
- Designing a Home Contract to allow the young person to remain at home, if appropriate, and to take responsibility for placement, if necessary
- Functioning as Parent Coaches
- Monitoring the progress of the young person and adjusting the family's strategic plan for the term of the Service Agreement
- Providing an Educational Consultant, Parent Coach, or Family Coordinator for ongoing support and to assist parents toward the resolution of issues
AS WELL AS . . .
- Reviewing academic and clinical records and also the short biography prepared by the parents, and basing recommendations partly on this information
- Discussing clinical needs with the young person's current psychiatrists, psychologists and therapists
- Preparing a list of placement recommendations, when applicable
